How well does PCAS perform in a high-temperature environment?

Even though PCAS was designed to sit atop the glareshield, it should function normally in high-temperature environments, such as summer conditions. Several design elements assist with keeping PCAS within its operating temperature range. The grey color of the housing deflects much of the heat from direct sunlight. On XRX, an internal cooling fan exhausts much of the heat build-up through the “gills” in the top of the unit. You may have noticed a slight whirring sound upon startup, which is from the fan. Electronic components were selected specifically for high heat tolerances. As with any electronics, heat can adversely affect performance. However, both MRX and XRX have been successfully tested to function normally at the top end of the 150°F (65°C) temperature range.

It is important to note that the limitation on temperature is mainly the display. The internal components and compensation work well beyond the limitations specified.

I bought an MRX earlier this year and have been pleased with it. I had been putting it on the glare shield while flying but last time it melted the power button and now it's dead. The case is also slightly deformed next to the power button.

I would recommend that people minimize the amount of time they leave the MRX on the glare shield. I only had it there for 60-90 minutes during the flight and now it is dead.

I own a xrx and so far happy with it. Last year I ve been in Croatia and now I´m in need of all knobs of the device. They are all melted while my plane was parked in the sun. Can you please give me Information where I can get this knobs for exchange in Germany.

Yes the buttons on the XRX can be replaced. Officially they can only be replaced by us, otherwise the units' warranty will be voided.
