Mounting Location and XRXi 4 Years, 3 Months ago Karma: 0
I'm ready to buy an XRX system today, but for one issue:

I'm reluctant to add any more to the antenna farm growing on the glareshield.

I already have two GPS antennas and an XM radio antenna. It's looking pretty cluttered up there, and I like an unobstructed view.

Two of the antennas drive a Garmin 496. This leads to a couple of questions:

- If the Garmin is used for display, is there any location on an RV type aircraft that an XRX can be remote mounted? Inside a fiberglass wingtip? The fiberglass rudder cap? The fiberglass rudder bottom? Under the fiberglass cowl? Inside the fiberglass wheel pant?

- If the above is not possible, is there an update on the timeline for an XRXi and will its antenna fit into any of the above locations?

There are alternative places to mount the XRX. However, placement depends on the aircraft structure and material. On an aluminum air_frame_ such as a Vans, XRX needs to be mounted in a place where the air_frame_ is below the antenna hump, which is why the glareshield is the optimum place. If your canopy slides, there's little room in the back behind the seats. If it hinges, you may have some space on the turtledeck. To be certain, send me a photo of your cockpit and we'll see if we can determine the best place. I have heard of some RVers placing XRX in the fiberglass rudder cap with success. The only wiring needed is ground, power and data. Be sure we do a simple free modification to allow the XRX to automatically power on and set itself up for remote mounting such as this.

I understand that the XRXi development has now been dropped.
From my post in the "Sales" forum you will see that I have posted an enquiry ref. remote mounting in an RV8. We have mounted a remote aerial in the fibreglass fin top in anticipation of the release of the XRXi, but have seen in the post above that you believe that the XRX will fit in this space.....it looks very tight......
Have you got any reports of whether modification is required to make this work?
Have any of your users had any success in mounting in the space behind the rear seat above the baggage compartment?
        How important is levellingthe unit?

I look forward to hearing back from you.
