"Traffic Not Available" alert 1 Year, 10 Months ago Karma: 0
Avionics shop newly interfaced with the XRX with the G496. Picks up traffic while near a airport. As i climb to cruise altitude (say 14,000 ft) an audio alert "Trafic Not Available" announces and for the duration of the flight I watch aircraft pass well within detection range without a peep from XRX. Decending into an airport I start getting alerts in the traffic patten. What's the deal.

Unfortunitely, I had much the same experience. Even after sending my XRX back to the factory after 3 months due to a screen that when to full black and a new "improved" software upgrade. Mine (placed in the middle of my glareshield, with no obstructions, I was constantly either getting audio warnings when no planes were anywhere near me ...or worse, not getting any alerts when planes WERE NEAR ME (ps. I fly in the O'Hare airspace all the time so I know that everyone has Mode C.

I spent too much time concerned about the accuracy of the XRX for it to be of use to me........my solution: I put it up for sale on EBAY about 11 months later and was able to sell it for only a $150 loss.............I was very dissapointed in the $1,650 expenditure for the XRX.

Your post has me wondering, because I have never gotten an audio alert, like you stated, from my XRX. I have gotten a similar one when TIS is not available to the G1000 (or 430/530). I am wondering if you have the initial set-up configuration for your type aircraft in correctly. This has a big factor in how the XRX responds. Is the location you have the XRX free from obstructions? Perhaps your unit is only getting a clear view of traffic in certain attitudes.

Turns out "Traffic Not Avalable" call was comin gfrom the G496 not the XRX. Reason: XRX shutting down periodicsally due to a cold solder connection inside the unit. Sent it back. They fixed it. Problem resolved.

New issue, trying to figure out how to supress the constant (and I do mean constant) traffic alerts when on approach to an airport. I'm picking up every plane in the pattern plus on the ground. VERY DISTRACTING. No way I can look for all that traffic AND fly the plane.

Outside of reducing the detection range/criteria as you approach the pattern, I know of no easy fix for all the alerts.
