MGLAvionicsHeader.jpgSee what you've been missing! Get traffic information on your MGL AFIS straight from your XRX and without the need for TIS coverage. Zaon and MGL Avionics have teamed up to provide highly-accurate traffic information overlayed on the same screen you've been looking at.

Hooking up an XRX to your MGL AFIS is simple and easy. The XRX has a built-in serial port and MGL AFIS interface protocols that, when connected to the MGL AFIS serial port, provide traffic information that the MGL AFIS can read and display on the moving map and in other ways.

CONNECTIONS

Use MGL AFIS RS232 Port 1, and connect as follows:

XRX                       Odyssey/Voyage/Enigma

Pin 2 (data) ----> Odyseey RX (Pin 3)

Pin 5 (gnd) ----> Odyseey GND (Pin 5)

Must-Read Information

Please read the important general integration notes as well as these MGL AFIS-specific notes to help you get the best performance from your XRX investment.

  • XRX contains a solid state compass to help your MGL AFIS properly orientate the traffic on your screen. Careful consideration should be taken when using the XRX near the XM antenna which contains a magnet.  Place the XM antenna as far as possible from your XRX.  Compass calibration instructions can be found in your XRX Owner’s Manual.
  • Traffic alerts will not be shown on your MGL AFIS if your ground speed is less than 30 KTS.
  • Traffic input from XRX cannot be shared with TIS input. Connecting any other RS-232 device to the MGL AFIS  while connected to XRX will result in overlaps in signals and errors from both data sources. However, XRX does not use MGL AFIS, which can be used for miscellaneous functions.
  • Zaon highly recommends using the voice alerts from the MGL AFIS in place of the XRX voice alerts when viewing traffic on the MGL AFIS display. Alert thresholds are different between the two units, and the XRX voice alerts may not be in sync with the pop-up alerts on the MGL AFIS.
  • The MGL AFIS interface hardware is specific to the GMGL AFIS only. Do not attempt to interface with any other device using these instructions or hardware.
