logo-hb17.png See what you've been missing! Get traffic information on your Hangar B-17 system straight from your XRX. Zaon and Hangar B-17 have teamed up to provide highly-accurate traffic information directly on the screen of your Palm, Pocket-PC or tablet based system.

bluetooth.gifHooking up an XRX to your Hangar B-17 system is simple and easy. An available Bluetooth device enables your XRX to send traffic wirelessly to the Hangar B-17 device. Or, a serial cable is available for devices that may not have an available Bluetooth channel.

What you see

hb17-screen.jpg
TCAS-style Icons and Info

Similar to weather and terrain info and alerts, traffic information is overlayed directly on any view within the Hangar B-17 environment. The top three threats are displayed at the same time on the screen.

Traffic information is displayed in the form of a white open diamond (no threat), white closed diamond (advisory) or an amber circle (threat). The traffic's relative altitude is also displayed next to the traffic icon. For example, an aircraft 400 feet above would be displayed as +04. The climb or descend trend is also displayed as either an up or down arrow.

Traffic Alert!

If traffic becomes a threat, as determined by the XRX, several things happen. A “traffic alert” message will appear on the Hangar B-17 display, and XRX provides the standard female voice and beep alerts to get your attention.

How to hook it up

Wireless Simplicity

Setup Guide

XRX Step-by-Step Setup

  1. To get the best performance, ensure all interface cables are properly connected and XRX is positioned for maximum detection. See “Placement Considerations” in your XRX Owner’s Manual.
  2. Calibrate your XRX compass. See “Compass Calibration” in your XRX Owner’s Manual.
  3. Use the Com menu to select "Profile 1" as the output method.

Maximize Detection Window

  1. Using the Alt and Range menus to set detection range to 6NM and altitude to ±2500 feet
  2. Press mute to return to the traffic screen. The screen will only show “Profile 1”, but all menu options will still be available by pressing the menu button again at any time.

  1. If using the Bluetooth connectivity, pair up the PDA with the XRX Bluetooth module and determine which COM port the Bluetooth device is connected to.
  2. In the Hangar B-17 software, select Options. Go to the Traffic menu item.  Select the appropriate COM port the unit connected.
  3. Click Start. The status screen will say “Online” and the device is now receiving information from the XRX.
When interfacing with a third-party system, XRX will not display any traffic information on the built-in screen, only which COM profile you have selected. This is done to free up processing time for more efficient traffic detection. However, all button functions work as normal, and you can even switch to a COM setting of "NONE" to temporarily see traffic on the XRX.
