nav-pad.jpg logo-navair.pngSee what you've been missing! Get traffic information on your NAVAir system straight from your XRX. Zaon and NAVAir have teamed up to provide highly-accurate traffic information directly on the screen of your PDA- or tablet-based NAVAir system.

bluetooth.gif Hooking up an XRX to your NAVAir system is simple and easy. An available Bluetooth device enables your XRX to send traffic wirelessly to the PDA or tablet device, like the new NAVPad tablet PC with built-in Bluetooth. Or, a serial cable is available for devices that may not have an available Bluetooth channel.

What you see

nav-screen.jpg
Everything on one display

Similar to weather and terrain info and alerts, traffic information is overlayed directly on the moving map display. NAVAir displays traffic position information in the form of arcs around your aircraf in the relative direction of the traffic. The traffic's relative altitude is also displayed next to the traffic icon. For example, an aircraft 400 feet above would be displayed as +04. The climb or descend trend is also displayed as either an up or down arrow.

How to hook it up

Wireless Simplicity

To make hookup as painless as possible, Zaon has developed a Bluetooth module that sends XRX information wirelessly to any Bluetooth-enabled device, including PDAs and tablets.

Alternately, a connection can be made via a serial-to-USB cable, or a standard serial cable, depending on the particular platform on which the NAVAir software is running.

Minimum Requirements

The minimum requirements are needed to show traffic:

  • XRX with any version of software
  • PDA or tablet-based system running NAVAir software with traffic add-on
  • Bluetooth module, interface cable or appropriate connection

Setup Guide

XRX Step-by-Step Setup

  1. To get the best performance, ensure all interface cables are properly connected and XRX is positioned  for maximum detection. See “Placement Considerations” in your XRX Owner’s Manual.
  2. Calibrate your XRX compass. See “Compass Calibration” in your XRX Owner’s Manual.
  3. Use the Com menu to select "Profile 2" (or "TrueFlight" on older XRX units) as the output method.

Maximize Detection Window

  1. Using the Alt and Range menus to set detection range to 6NM and altitude to ±2500 feet
  2. Press mute to return to the traffic screen. The screen will only show “Profile 2” (or "TrueFlight"), but all menu options will still be available by pressing the menu button again at any time.

NAVAir Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Contact NAVAir for instructions on configuring the NAVAir software.
When interfacing with a third-party system, XRX will not display any traffic information on the built-in screen, only which COM profile you have selected. This is done to free up processing time for more efficient traffic detection. However, all button functions work as normal, and you can even switch to a COM setting of "NONE" to temporarily see traffic on the XRX.
