When practicing aerobatics, tumbling and twirling through the sky, my PCAS gives me piece of mind.
I was recently given a PCAS MRX as a gift. I thought I would share my very first experience with your product. I was practicing touch n' go's at my home airport, Tara Field (4A7), and was just climbing through 800 ft. AGL when I saw my MRX with an indicator of traffic at 2.0 NM and -02 feet. The range indicator steadily counted down as the target was moving closer and below my base leg position. I received an Advisory followed ultlimately by an Alert. The PCAS MRX is the most valuable instrument in my cockpit. Its combination of performance, features, size and price is extraordinary. I would push the FAA to make it a requirement in all aircraft. I have owned a PCAS XRX for almost two years and would not fly without it. I consider it AS important as any other instrument in my airplane. I can honestly say that since installing my XRX, I have not spotted any traffic that the XRX did not point out first. And probably would not have seen many of them if it weren't for its use. I have sold at least three XRX's to pilot friends around Decatur Municipal (LUD). It is a source of pride to me, that my fellow Texans so close to home are making such a difference in air safety. I could go on with more stories and praise but just wanted you to know that I am very grateful to you, your company and your wonderful product. I was so impressed with the PCAS MRX, I bought a second one. I rent airplanes where I go and never know what kind of cockpit radio stack I am going to encounter. So, I bring my Garmin 296 and MRX. You should hear the positive comments at checkout from CFIs when I put the MRX on top of the radio stack. What continues to amaze me is flights like my last in the extremely clear air of Kingman, Arizona, when the MRX picks up planes around me I never see. There is a lot of traffic out there. I really like the signal strength range settings out to five miles and the +-5000 vertical range. Sure helps in estimating. I was impressed with the threat assessment algorithm/programming built into the unit.
My husband Ken was able to avoid a mid-air recently when he was about to take off on the runway at Aero Country (T31) and a plane was taking off from the other end of the runway at the same time - unannounced. Because the runway is sloped high in the middle and low at either end, they could not see eachother. If not for the PCAS MRX alerting him that another aircraft was in close range it could have been a disaster. So he was really glad he had the PCAS on board!! I think these should be required instruments on every aircraft. We're just happy to have this invaluable system in our plane helping us to fly safe. |

I use the PCAS MRX even when I'm instructing. It's been a valuable asset here in the busy So Cal airspace. I'm the Chief Instructor for the Lake Elsinore Soaring Club (Skylark Airport CA89). We have a busy skydive center at the airport and the I-15 corridor is busy with planes transitioning from LA / OC to San Diego. With the fires that just burned around here, there was a water scooping plane stationed on Lake Elsinore. Having the MRX was very helpful in keeping track of them, especially since they were flying low and in whatever direction they needed.
